The exhibition « Eros’ wife » brings together seven artists around the myth of Psyche, the goddess of the soul.

Venus was jealous of Psyche’s beauty and asked her son, Eros (Cupid), to use one of his arrows to make her fall in love with a hideous creature. Seeing Psyche’s beauty, Eros accidentally stung himself.

She was so beautiful that men only came to admire her and would not marry her. So her parents went to the oracle of Apollo who told them that she must go to the top of a mountain where she would meet her husband: a horrible serpent creature that even the gods feared.

But while she was on her way, a breeze blew her into a palace where everything was enchanted. Every night her husband came to visit her, but he was invisible and had to remain so. That was the rule. Eventually she fell in love with him but wanted to see his face and against all odds she found herself face to face with Cupid. Thus she found herself in a field near her two terribly jealous sisters.

Psyche wandered day and night, without food or rest, in search of Eros. She finally went to see Venus, who was furious and gave her several impossible missions to accomplish. The last one was to visit the goddess of hell in order to get a dose of Proserpine’s beauty in a golden box.
