Maud Louvrier Clerc

For more than fifteen years, Maud Louvrier Clerc has been exploring a form born out of a need for balance between two inseparable energies, Yin and Yang: the Carrond.
Its name reveals its shape: half square, half round, a meeting point between structure and softness, stability and movement. Carrond is an act of resistance to reintegrate Yin, listening, patience and the Earth into our lives and at the heart of our civilisation.

‘I often think of a Buddha from the Angkorian era protected by the naga, preserved in the Guimet Museum. His wise smile, reflecting his radiant inner serenity, is within me when I draw a Carrond. It is this peace, both eternal and in the present moment, that I seek to convey in my works.’

The works on display trace a journey from early drawings and collages to the most recent digital practices, including sculpture and screen printing.

Like a musical score, the form transforms, repeats and unfolds. As in Ravel’s Boléro, where instruments are gradually added to amplify the melody, Maud Louvrier Clerc has generated multiple variations over the years. Capturing the energies at the heart of materials such as wood, metal, earth and stone, the artist gradually apprehends the empty space that appears between forms, an interstice that she likens to breath.

The Carrond has an exceptional capacity for reproduction. The artist has thus developed a wide lexicon of forms: Capsule, Hourglass, Flower, Cloud, generating infinities, architectures and mental landscapes.

In his recent works, the artist develops a narrative on the evolution of the Earth since its creation from a Cell, where the Carrond is associated with our planet. This motif opens a new era. This is only the beginning.
